(Malcolm's 4th cousin on his mother's side)

Dear Shirley,

We were so sad to learn of Malcolm's passing away, especially after such a long brave fight. We wish you and your family long life.

I don't know if I ever told you this, but I have a Malcolm story even though I never met him. When you came to visit South Africa in the early 1980's, you showed my parents and me pictures of your family. There was a wallet size photo of Malcolm and I just thought he was the best looking guy I had ever seen (except for my movie star pinups)!! So you gave me that photo and for a couple of months I carried it around in my school bag telling everyone that this gorgeous guy with the amazing smile was my American boyfriend. Okay, I was only 13 or 14 at the time and it did give me "elevated status" for a little while until the other kids wanted to see more evidence.
Anyway, I always wanted to meet Malcolm to see if he was as gorgeous as his photo and was waiting for him to get better. Alas our visit was never meant to be, but I will always have his memory.

I know these are incredibly hard times for you and your family, but we wish you strength getting through them.

All my love,
Jady Psek Kallen
