We lost a CB family member over the weekend. This is not a common occurrence for us.
Malcolm was not a common man. He was self-reliant, quiet, independent, and very smart. He did his job with thoroughness and dedication and respect for his client relationships. Throughout his illness, he was in constant touch with the office overseeing the transactions in which he was involved. I am certain this was a diversion for him but also it was a responsibility he knew he had. I came to know Malcolm much better as we discussed his illness together. He approached his situation with intelligence and realism. I believe he was as thoroughly versed in his illness and prognosis as his doctors. He accepted his outlook with the same matter of fact attitude that he did all things, not asking for pity or sympathy, only support. All of you gave him that support in your own way.
Appropriately, Malcolm made the top ten for the first time last year. His illness prevented him from attending our recognition dinner. After my tribute to him in which I discussed his bravery and courage and the fact that he had his best year ever despite being away from the office fully half the year, everyone present rose and gave him a sustained standing ovation. In our hearts and minds, I think all of us should do that again.
Life well led, Malcolm! Job well done!
